Employment: Student Leaders

There are a few things you will need to do before you begin filling out the application.

  • Prepare a current text-only resume (no formatting required) including, but not limited to: history of involvement, educational background, and list of honors or achievements that you would like us to know about.
  • Prepare a personal statement (750 word maximum) addressing all three of the following questions.
    1. Given what you know about the student leader position(s) for which you are applying, how will your life experiences contribute to your success as a student leader?
    2. How will you contribute to and support the mission of Housing & Residential Education (HRE)? Please include examples of activities, programs, or interactions with others that illustrate your support of the HRE mission. HRE’s mission statement can be found here.
    3. As a student leader, you will be advocating for and providing resources to students from different cultures, races, sexual orientations, and abilities than yourself. Please explain honestly how you would be able to connect with these diverse populations and how you have been able to work in teams made up of diverse individuals.
  • Identify the two individuals that you will ask to be your reference providers. If you currently live on campus, one of these will be a Resident Advisor Reference and the second can either be a Campus Reference (an advisor of an organization, faculty member, staff member, etc.) or a Professional Reference (a current or past employer—volunteer experiences will be accepted). If you do not currently live on campus, one provider will need to be a Campus Reference and the second can either be another Campus Reference or a Professional Reference.

Once you begin the application, you will copy and paste both your resume and personal statement into textboxes. You will also be asked to provide the name, email address, and telephone number of your two reference providers.

You must fill out the application to completion in one session—you cannot save a partially completed application and finish it later. The application should take no more than thirty minutes to complete.

Reference Forms

Reference forms will be passed out at information sessions and are available for pick-up at the Housing & Residential Education office (Building 822). If you’d like, you can also download a PDF file of the reference forms here:
