A phone line and handset are provided for residents’ use in the central lobby on each floor of Residence Halls. As a University of Utah student, you are eligible for discounted University rates with cellular providers. You can login (using your uNID) to review plan options and costs at www.it.utah.edu/services/phones/cellular.php.

Q17: How do I connect my computer to the Internet connection in my room?
A17:

High speed ethernet connections in student residence halls and apartments for campus network and Internet access are one of the Residence Hall benefits. These connections are called Web-Authenticated Network Access (WANA) ports, and are found in HRE student apartments as well as classrooms, lounge areas, and computer labs around campus. WANA ports can be used by anyone with a University Network ID (uNID) and password.  After opening a Web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.), students will be automatically directed to a login website.

You only need an ethernet (Category 5) cable and a browser to connect your computer to the campus network and Internet via WANA. Please become familiar with the Network Acceptable Use Policy which governs WANA and other campus network use. To read the policy, go to http://www.it.utah.edu/leadership/policies/NetworkAcceptableUse.html.

For more information about setting up your computer to use WANA, go to http://www.it.utah.edu/services/helpDesk/connectedhelp/. OIT Technical Support will be onsite at the Heritage Center and available to help with any WANA issues during the HRE move-in weekend and the first week of Fall Semester.

HRE residents can call the Campus Help Desk at 1-4000 option 1 if they have game consoles or video recording devices like TiVo they want to use in their room. The Campus Help Desk needs the device's MAC address so it can be allowed through the network filters. To determine your device's MAC address, contact the vendor.
