Community Environment
First Year Focus is an alternative to doing it on your own your first year.
You will participate in programs and workshops focused on academic and career success skills. You will have the opportunity to form study groups and work with the Residence Halls Tutoring Program. First Year Focus provides an environment favorable to establishing good academic habits and finding the college resources you need to be successful.
Gateway Heights is a unique place to live in Heritage Commons and offers the following benefits:
- One Academic Mentor per building, offering academic programs, workshops, and resources
- Single gender floors
- Lower Resident to RA ratio—about 38 residents per RA
- Centrally located in Heritage Commons—adjacent to Peterson Heritage Center, Housing & Residential Education office, and shuttle stop to academic buildings
- Ample study space, including study lounges on each floor and one large fireplace lounge in each building
Live in Gateway Heights with other First Year Focus Freshmen. Study together, socialize together, and enjoy the benefits of making friends that will last throughout your college career.
If you choose to register for the LEAP program, you'll work with outstanding faculty and participate in exciting academic classes and we'll help you arrange your schedules and enroll in classes. You will also benefit from LEAP classes and the linked Writing classes that are held in Housing & Residential Education. You can learn more about LEAP by going to the LEAP website at http://www.ugs.utah.edu. Click on Prospective Students and then on LEAP.
