Where and When to Check-In

Check-in will take place on Thursday, August 20 through Sunday, August 22. Residents can check-in between 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM MDT.

Please park near your assigned building. Watch for signs or volunteers in the parking lot to direct you to the check-in area for your building.

Residents arriving on Thursday, August 20 will check-in at the following location based on your assigned area:

  • Chapel Glen residents will check-in at the tent located to the south of building 803.
  • Gateway Heights residents will check-in outside of building 807, on the west side near the shuttle stop.
  • Sage Point residents will check-in at the tent located to the north of building 811.
  • Officers Circle residents will check-in at the Gazebo/Bandstand located in the center of the grassy area on the circle.
  • Benchmark Plaza residents will check-in on the south side of building 820.
  • Shoreline Ridge residents should check-in at the Information Desk in the Peterson Heritage Center.

Residents arriving between Friday, August 21 and Sunday, August 23 will check in at the tent located across from the Housing & Residential Education office—located on the first floor of 822 Benchmark Plaza.

A Couple of Highlights:
  • The U is a dry campus—please do not bring alcohol or empty alcohol containers
  • Toilet paper (all bathrooms are semi-private bathrooms). Not all buildings have public restrooms.
  • We recommend purchasing a shower caddy for your shower supplies (there are no shelves in the showers).

Parking

No parking tickets will be given from Thursday, August 20 through Sunday, August 23, but you MUST be parked in a legal non-metered parking spot. Parking on the sidewalks, lawn, or in a handicapped space (without the appropriate tag) will result in a ticket. You can park in the metered locations, but you will need to pay the appropriate meter amount.

Pre-Arrival Checklist

  • If you live near Salt Lake City, try to have your student ID picture taken. Your ID card is your building access and your meal card. Having this ready to pick up will be one less thing to do when you arrive. If you attend on campus orientation, you will have your picture taken then. Your card will be ready for you at check-in.
  • You may pay your August charges online after August 3.
  • Review the Heritage Commons map to see where your building is located and where your check-in location is.

Building Access & Room Access

Room key: You will be issued your room key at check-in. It is vital that you lock your doors at all times. It is also important that you talk with your suitemates about locking their door. In Chapel Glen and Gateway Heights, the rooms are connected by the bathroom. Bathrooms do not have locks on them as this would violate fire code. The doors from the hallway automatically lock, please take your key with you.

If you are locked out of your room during business hours—please go to HRE to sign out a lock-out key. After business hours, please call 801-587-2000 (Peterson Heritage Center desk) and the duty RA will be radioed to assist you. If you obtain a lock-out key from HRE during business hours, the first one will be free and each additional one will be $5. If you need your door unlocked after regular HRE business hours, the cost will be $25.

If you are locked out of your building and need a temporary access card, you can purchase one from HRE during business hours or from the PHC desk after HRE business hours. A temporary access card costs $10. If you return the card to HRE during business hours, you will receive a $5 refund to your account.

If you have lost your key and need a lock change, the cost will be $60.00.

If you are locked out of your building or room after the Peterson Heritage Center closes, please call 801-587-2000. This number is answered 24 hours per day. The duty RA will be radioed to let you into your room. This service costs $25.

Staff will always verify your identity when letting you into your room or issuing a lock out key. Billing for all fees will be to your Housing U account.

Your Housing Bill

Charges for the Fall semester will be billed to your account on August 3, 2009. You will see your room and meal plan charges for each month, as well as RHA dues, optional services. Only those items dated in August are due before/upon your arrival.

You can pay in the following ways: online in Housing U using a credit card, calling in a credit or debit card payment to Housing & Residential Education (801-587-2002), or paying in person at the Housing & Residential Education office. Additional payments will be due September 1, October 1, November 1, and December 1. Spring payments will be due January 8, February 1, March 1, and April 1.

Financial Aid / Scholarship Information

If you have financial aid that will cover all or part of your housing fees, you may bring your financial aid check to Housing & Residential Education when you receive it.

If you have a University scholarship that covers your housing, these will be posted to your account by August 14. Non-housing scholarships will be posted to your tuition account. When you receive the financial aid/scholarship reimbursement from your tuition excess, please bring the excess to HRE to pay your bill. If you have questions regarding your scholarship, please contact Kent Miller at 801-587-0859 or KMiller@housing.utah.edu.
