House Environment
The College of Science recognizes students of academic excellence in science, mathematics and science-related majors, and gives them the title, “Crocker Science House Scholar.” Along with the title comes an opportunity to live in the Gary and Ann Crocker Science House. Here, a community arises wherein exist many opportunities for discussions which integrate the different sciences. This generates, on a smaller scale, the classic University atmosphere where minds meet and benefit from the experiences and education of fellow learners. Activities range from fun and exciting social events to events that are science-oriented and academic-enhancing. Sometimes, meetings or informal talks may inspire and motivate the students to help them better manage and plan their academic and future careers. At the Crocker Science House, the scholars are unified by their interest in science and math but are diversified in their fields of study, which creates a unique atmosphere for learning and growth.

House Programs/Traditions
- Science at Breakfast Lecture Series: Each year, the College of Science sponsors four Science at Breakfast lectures. Attendance for Science at Breakfast lectures is by invitation from the Dean of the College of Science. Three Crocker Scholars have the opportunity to attend each lecture (rotating so each Scholar has a chance to attend a lecture). The students enjoy a buffet breakfast at the Little America Hotel, fascinating lectures, and see leaders of science industry firms interact with scientists as they learn about cutting-edge scientific research. (Fall and Spring Semesters)
- Science Day at the U: Crocker House Scholars volunteer to prepare a display for and man the College of Science table at Science Day. (Fall Semester, November)
- Lunch with the Dean: Crocker Science scholars have the opportunity to have lunch with the Dean of the College of Science at the Crimson View.(Fall Semester)
- Officers Hollow: Crocker Science House students participate in "Officers Hollow," a Halloween event coordinated by the Bennion Center. Children from homeless shelters and other homes for disadvantaged families are brought to "trick or treat" at Officers Circle. The students choose themes for the Crocker Science House, decorate, dress up, meet and greet (or scare) the children and hand out candy. (Fall Semester)
- Frontiers of Science Lecture Series: Crocker Scholars are encouraged to attend the Frontiers of Science lectures hosted by the College of Science. These lectures are also open to the public. (Fall and Spring Semesters)
- Meals with Distinguished Scientists: When possible, the College of Science schedules a social event to allow Crocker Scholars have the opportunity to meet and visit with the prominent scientist(s) presenting at the Frontiers of Science Lecture Series and Intel Corporation Lectures. For the social event, the Crocker Science House students host a breakfast or dinner. (Fall and Spring Semesters)
- Spring Planting: Students plant flowers and vegetables around the house. (Spring Semester)
- Open House: Every other year, Gary and Ann Crocker, as well as new students/faculty, are invited to visit the house and get to know the Crocker Science Scholars. (Spring Semester)
- Service Project: Crocker Science Scholars, in cooperation with the Bennion Center and the scholars of the Service House in Officers Circle, plan and contribute to a community service project. (Fall and/or Spring Semesters)
- Student Trip: Students travel to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, or other areas of interest. The trip is planned and destinations determined by the scholars. (Fall and/or Spring Semesters)
- Book Drive: Each fall, the Crocker Scholars hold a book drive, seeking book donations to expand the science library in the Crocker Science House. (Fall Semester)
- Dinners and Meetings with Faculty: Faculty meet and have dinner with Crocker Science Scholars to discuss 1) how to get involved in research, 2) how to get into graduate school, or, 3) careers in science, and just to have an enjoyable time. These dinners and meetings are very casual and lots of fun. (Fall and Spring Semester)
