LIVING ON CAMPUS = EASY ACCESS TO EVERYTHING 

Living on campus puts everything the U has to offer right outside your front door. As a resident, you’ll enjoy quick access to campus and beyond — no car required.

In fact, most first-year residents choose not to bring a vehicle. Keep reading to explore the many transportation options available to you and why we encourage you to leave your car at home.

COMMUTER SERVICES

Whether you bring a car to campus or not, Commuter Services is a great resource to learn how to get around on campus. Visit their website for helpful information including the campus map, biking resources, and SPIN Scooters.

CAMPUS SHUTTLES

Getting around campus is easy and free! The University offers a shuttle system to help students, faculty, and staff travel between key locations on campus.

Stay on schedule with the Shuttle Tracker — your best resource for real-time shuttle locations and estimated arrival times.

URIDE

URide is a great resource for those that need an extra lift during evening hours! University community members may request a free ride to most locations at the U. URide functions similarly to other rideshare programs like Uber or Lyft, but only operates within university boundaries. Download the TransLoc app to request a ride.

 URide is not a replacement for public transportation or rideshare services.

Public Transit

As a University of Utah student, you ride free! Your UCard gives you access to all public transportation in Salt Lake City — including bus, TRAX, and FrontRunner — at no additional cost. Utilize your UTA benefits.

With TRAX, there’s no need to worry about parking. Campus features 4 different TRAX stops; Hospital, Fort Douglas, South Campus, and Stadium. Navigate campus and downtown with ease using the Red Line.

Pass does not include Paratransit, Ski and Park City Services. Students, faculty and staff with valid Summit County zip code may obtain a Park City Connect pass.

Parking & Permits

You're encouraged to leave your car at home — but if you need to bring a vehicle, here’s what you should know:

How to Get a Permit

  • Students must purchase a parking permit through University Commuter Services 
  • Parking is not guaranteed near your housing building.
  • Some lots may close during campus events.
  • Visitors and guests can purchase temporary guest parking passes online through Visitor Short Term Parking
