SPRING APPLICATION OPENS NOVEMBER 3, 2025

Students can start applications November 3, 2025 in the HousingU Portal in CIS by selecting the "Spring" term. Please check the application process page located here.

2026-2027  ACADEMIC YEAR APPLICATION TIMELINE

For all the details, including links, exact dates and times for receiving housing offers and more, please scroll down.

Transfer students can apply for upper-division or first-year housing. If you are not sure which housing option might be best for you, consider the definitions we give in the Housing U application:

  • Housing & Dining Programs (HDP) typically designates buildings for first-year, upper-division, and graduate students. First-year students live in first-year buildings and upper-division and graduate students are in upper-division buildings.
  • "First-year" means you are in your first year at the University of Utah and are under 21 years of age.
  • "Upper-division" means this is not your first year at the University of Utah, or you are transferring with one or more years of post-high school credit from another institution, or are 21 years of age or older.
  • Graduate means you are enrolled in a graduate or professional program.

UPPER-DIVISION 2026-2027 TIMELINE

NOVEMBER 3, 2025

Upper Division Housing Application Opens

Upper-division students begin applying in Housing U in CIS. Complete the application by filling out personal information, signing the agreement, and paying the $130 application fee. Please note that your reservation time slot will be determined by your application completion time. Apply early!

NOTE: If you have already paid the application fee from a previous application, there will be no application fee assessed.

FEBRUARY 6, 2026

Students receive email with room selection instructions

Upper-Division students with a complete application will receive an email in their UMail with room reservation instructions. This email will include their room reservation timeslot along with the list of LLCs that the student has received an offer from.

FEBRUARY 9, 2026

Room Selection Starts

At your assigned room selection time slot, you can login to Housing U in CIS and reserve a bed. If you don’t see any available beds, it means all eligible beds are currently booked. The room selection page functions as a live marketplace, so availability can change quickly — we recommend checking back regularly for new openings.

FIRST-YEAR 2026-2027 TIMELINE

JANUARY 13, 2026

First-year Housing Application Opens

First-year students begin applying on Housing U in CIS. Complete the application by filling out personal information, signing the agreement, and paying the $130 application fee. Please note that your reservation timeslot will be determined by your application completion time. Apply early!

MARCH 16, 2026

Priority Deadline

First year students that meet the priority deadline by completing a first year housing application will receive an email containing their time slot and room selection instructions on April 17.

APRIL 17, 2026

Priority Room Selection

Students who met the priority deadline (March 16, 2026), will receive an email in their UMail with room selection instructions. This email will include their room reservation timeslot along with the list of LLC(s) that the student has received an offer from.

APRIL 20-MAY 1, 2026

Priority Room Selection

At your assigned room selection time slot, you can login to Housing U in CIS and reserve a bed. Students will have 72 hours from their assigned timeslot to complete this step. Failing to reserve a room on-time will result in the forfeiture of the student's guaranteed bed offer.

MAY 4, 2026

First-Year Housing Guarantee Deadline

This is the last day for students to apply for housing and have a guaranteed bed on campus.

MAY 8, 2026

Students Receive Email with Instructions

First year students that met the housing guarantee deadline will receive an email in their UMail with instructions. Offers represent a guaranteed bed (room type is not guaranteed).

MAY 11, 2026

First-year Guaranteed Housing Room Selection

First year room selection starts this day. This step goes through the summer until all students on the guaranteed list receive a room selection offer. Your timeslot will be assigned based on your application completion time. Students must check their UMail regularly. We will also post offer lists on this page.

AUGUST 1, 2026

All first-year students that met the housing guarantee deadline will receive an offer by this date.
