ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-2024
Moving In
The fall 2023 move-in process will occur over multiple days. Students will select their move-in date/day based on their assigned building between August 15-18. This is the time that you should plan to arrive on campus. In addition to this email, HRE will send other important move-in related information to you throughout the summer, including flow maps, parking information, and other logistics. For the most up-to-date information about moving in, visit our helpful Moving In webpage.
Students participating in an approved university activity can request an early move-in date between August 11-14. Requests should be submitted by July 23, 2023. Request an early arrival day and time in Housing U by July 23, 2023. Students participating in early arrival will be charged an additional $40/day.
HRE has created a comprehensive packing list for you! This list is located in our New Student Housing Guide and on our Pre-Arrival Moving In webpage. We recommend reviewing this list and checking in with your roommate(s) or suitemate(s) to determine if larger items, like minifridges and TVs, need to be brought to campus.
Room & Roommates
You can view photos and 3D floor plans on our website by selecting the community you’ll be living in. You can also check out our virtual tours on our YouTube or our Housing Tours webpage.
Room changes do not occur during the first two weeks of the semester as HRE enacts a Room Freeze while we work to accommodate students on our waitlist and get everyone settled. Beginning September 5, students can access the room change form under “Housing Forms” in their Housing U portal. If the request is approved, the student will be contacted about available spaces and a timeline.
Your can view your roommate(s) or suitemate(s) by logging back in to the Housing U application found in your CIS portal. Click “Apply for Housing” and select the 2022 summer application. From here, you’ll be automatically directed to the “Application Review” section where you’ll be able to view your roommates’ names, answers to profile questions, and the ability to send them a message to their UMail. If your roommate has a privacy setting on that does not allow you to view their information, contact the HRE office for assistance in reaching out to them.
Logistics & Services
All students who live on campus will be issued a mailing address. You will receive this address via email one week before you will be able to begin shipping items to campus. This email will also contain instructions on paper mail pick up and our package locker system. We begin accepting mailed items on August 9 for pick-up on the student's move-in day.
You may change your meal plan in the Housing U portal or by calling our office for support until July 20, 2022. After this date, you are able to change your meal plan once a semester by submitting the online Meal Plan Change form on our Dining Forms webpage. After the second Friday of the semester (September 2), you will need to wait until the beginning of the spring 2023 semester to change your meal plan.
Residents are strongly encouraged to not bring a vehicle with them to campus if they are not commuting off campus (job, etc.). As a U. student, you’ll have free access to campus shuttles to make your way around campus and our Utah Transit Authority (UTA) public transportation system for trips off campus via bus, light rail (TRAX), and commuter rail (FrontRunner). UTA easily transports folks from campus to downtown Salt Lake City, the SLC airport, to ski resorts, and north and south along the Wasatch Front mountain region. Students who bring a car to campus will need to purchase a virtual parking permit through the department of Commuter Services.
Applying for Housing & Waitlist Process
If you are interested in living on campus for the 2023-2024 academic year and do not currently have a housing reservation, please note that we are currently running a waitlist for housing. To sign up for the waitlist, you will need to log into your CIS portal, select the Student Housing tile, and navigate to Housing U. More detailed instructions can be found on our Waitlist Webpage. We will contact you if and when a space that you are able to live in becomes available. To learn more about the waitlist process, prioritization schedule, and weekly updates, visit our Waitlist webpage. Note that HRE does not guarantee housing, but spaces are made available to reserve as soon as they become available throughout the summer.
