By accepting a waitlist placement for a specific LLC/TC, we can identify your interest. However, you should continue with the traditional housing process since you might never receive an offer.

You may accept a “waitlist” offer from an LLC after getting a room in traditional housing or while on the waitlist for traditional housing.

Just one. You should accept the waitlist placement for the community you prefer the most. By accepting one waitlist, the LLC partners can better understand if students on their waitlists are interested in their community or other communities (placement in the waitlist).

HRE does NOT share LLC waitlist numbers.

If you decline an offer, you will be removed from that LLC consideration. However, you could still accept a waitlist. Offers are sent as beds become available between April 9 and August 1.

A “no offer” status indicates an LLC could not offer you a space or waitlist status for the community. While you may be eligible for this community, the number of applications was far greater than the number of available beds.

We recommend accepting your top preference of “waitlist” to increase your chances of getting an offer later in the summer. If you did not get any “waitlist,” please look into traditional housing.

If you do not take any action to accept a “waitlist” or “offer” status, you will proceed to the traditional housing process. You will not be considered for any LLC/TC since you did not respond to an offer or waitlist.

No. Once an offer is accepted, students have committed to that community and cannot change their housing to another LLC/TC. Students can only change their housing to go into traditional housing, at which point they will be removed from all LLC/TC consideration.

Students going into Traditional housing can start with optional roommate matching. Go to the Housing U Portal from April 29 through May 5 to look through potential roommates or suite mates in traditional housing or find and connect with specific people to make a roommate group.

Roommate groups are prioritized in room selection to fill room types fully. Learn how to create a group here.

Whether you have a roommate group or select a room on your own, HRE will email you (via Email) on May 8 with your room selection start time. If you are in a roommate group, your group will receive the same selection window. Room selection ends at noon (Mountain Time) on May 17.

LLCs and TCs have a shared academic or interest-based focus. Students with similar academic interests or goals live together in these communities, which are often centered around a particular major, field of study, or shared interest like leadership, service, or sustainability.  

They have focused programming tailored to the community theme, allowing residents to explore their interests in depth. These communities often provide unique learning experiences, such as specialized workshops, guest lectures, and group projects related to the community theme. These activities are designed to enhance students' academic and personal growth.  

On the other hand, traditional housing offers a diverse community with students from various backgrounds, majors, and interests. This diversity can lead to a rich cultural experience and exposure to different perspectives.  A general campus experience without a specific academic focus.  

In traditional housing communities, students can interact with a wide range of individuals, fostering a broader social network. They also have freedom and flexibility, with fewer specific requirements or activities than LLCs. This freedom allows students to explore their interests independently and create their own college experience.  

At the University of Utah, all traditional housing options are on the upper campus. For the 2024-2025 academic year, our first-year traditional housing options are: 

• Chapel Glen 
• Gateway Heights 
• Sage Point 

The housing application must be submitted by June 5 at 11:59 PM (Mountain Time) to receive the housing guarantee. This deadline is firm as we work to house students as soon as possible. Students who apply after this time will be considered as space as available. 

The May 3 priority deadline includes the ability to match roommates. This option is not available for students applying after this deadline. 

HRE works to place students in available spaces as soon as possible. Students should look over room types and expect a double or triple style room to be the most plentiful option.  

The move-in process will occur over multiple days, August 13-16. Students will be prompted via an email from HRE to select their move-in date/day based on their assigned building in June.  This is the time that you should plan to arrive on campus. In addition to this email, HRE will send other important move-in related information to you throughout the summer, including flow maps, parking information, and other logistics. Early arrivals are only granted to students participating in a university-related function.

HRE has created a comprehensive packing list for you! This list is located in our New Student Housing Guide and on our Pre-Arrival Moving In webpage. We recommend reviewing this list and checking in with your roommate(s) or suitemate(s) to determine if larger items, like minifridges and TVs, need to be brought to campus.

Room changes do not occur during the first two weeks of the semester as HRE enacts a Room Freeze while we work to accommodate students on our waitlist and get everyone settled. Beginning September 3, students can access the room change form under “Housing Forms” in their Housing U portal. If the request is approved, the student will be contacted about available spaces and a timeline.

You can view your roommate(s) or suitemate(s) by logging back in to the Housing U application found in your CIS portal. Click “Apply for Housing” and select the 2024-2025 academic year application. From here, you’ll be automatically directed to the “Application Review” section where you’ll be able to view your roommates’ names, answers to profile questions, and the ability to send them a message to their UMail. If your roommate has a privacy setting on that does not allow you to view their information, contact the HRE office for assistance in reaching out to them.

Move-in for the summer semester is May 10, 2024, beginning at 9 a.m. You will receive an email from Housing with more information in early May.
