Tips for a College Thanksgiving

Comfort Thanksgiving Meals

Thanksgiving is a time where families and friends come together, feast, and celebrate what they are thankful for. At the University of Utah this break is short, so some students may stay on campus for the holiday and may miss out on home-cooked mash potatoes, turkey, cranberry sauce, and pie.  If you are staying on campus for break, fear not for I have put together a couple college friendly thanksgiving ideas. You can also access the Feed U Pantry for extra sides such as corn or green beans. Don't forget the can opener!

You can easily microwave several festive dishes in your residence hall like:

  • Mashed Potatoes and stuffing
  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Cornbread

And you can aquire a few cost-conscious items at the store or food pantry like:

  • Canned Cranberry Sauce
  • Green Peas
  • Gravy
  • Apple cider

Friendsgiving

One way to stay connected on campus is by throwing a friendsgiving with a club you're in, friend group, or floormates. Everyone brings a dish of some kind and you all eat together. Friendsgiving is a good way to meet other people, enjoy each other's company and socialize.

Some housing options even equip you with a full kitchen, so you have the resources you need to help contribute to the best friendsgiving. Pro tips:

  • Substitute turkey for turkey breast as it is easier and faster to cook!
  • Pumpkin pie only requires a couple ingredients and you can find a premade dough at the store.

Feast

Whatever way you decide to spend Thanksgiving, enjoy it with people you love, take time to reflect on what you are grateful for, and maybe watch a comforting, festive movie!
